The Mural that Clara and I have been working on the entire semester is now complete! We have named our lion Steve, and he now hangs in one of the stairwells in the building. The entire project was created by students. The hand prints were done on International night and are from students, staff members and families. Below is a gallery that shows the progression of Steve. Special thanks to Mr. Kegely, Ms. Fritz, Mrs Lazaga, Carli Back, Madison Myers and the 2017-2018 Innovations class.

For the first project of this semester, my friend Clara and I decided to partner up. We came up with the idea of creating a mural that would be a Lion head and the mane would be comprised of handprints from both students, staff and parents. The handprints would represent the diversity within the school. The mural would be a way to include all sorts of different people and provide a way for many to leave a mark on the school.
After meeting with our principal, Mr. Kegley and receiving his full support we met with an art teacher, Ms. Fritz to get ideas and recommendations for the mural. She suggested paint types, colors, ideas for canvases and the size of the mural. We then received permission to set up a hand printing station during International Night, which is an event that happens every March and it celebrates the various cultures that are represented within the school. Students perform different dances and talents that originate from various cultures and after the performances there is a large array of food from different cultures that is provided by families and students for guests to try. We figured this would be the perfect event to have people put their handprints on the mural, because the ideas behind them are similar. Clara and I are now in the process of creating a pilot mural to test colors and methods of handprinting. Below is a picture the original template drawing that we created. |
AboutThe Second Semester is entirely self-driven. In short, you pick a topic or project you are interested in and persue it in any format that you choose. The semester is built with 2-week check ins that provide a time to change or leave the project if you desire. |
